Home insurance can help you recover from disaster by covering the cost of rebuilding your home and replacing your belongings in the event of fire, theft, vandalism, and other perils.

A home is an investment, and it is your responsibility as an owner to protect your property from potential damage or loss. Home insurance is the way to protect your home from financial loss in case of unpredicted damage. Home insurance will protect you from the financial burden in cases of fire, theft, vandalism, wind and hail, explosions, riots, aircraft and vehicle damage, etc. It usually covers the damages to the actual building, its associated structures like garages, and the loss of your personal properties like furniture, clothes, jewelry, and personal liabilities.

The average cost of home insurance in Canada is $960 per year and $1250 per year in Ontario.

Why do you even need tenants/renters insurance ?

Tenant insurance in Toronto (also called renters’ insurance) is meant for people who rent the place where they live, whether home, condo, or apartment. It provides coverage against common risks like theft, fire damage, and personal injury that occurs on the property. Tenant insurance is necessary because a landlord’s home insurance policy won’t cover these perils on behalf of the renter. This depends on your postal code, the value of your total contents, your liability limits. Policies normally start at $300/yr and increase as the content values and liability limits increase.

Top 5 factors that impact your tenant insurance rate

  1. Deductible
  2. Where You live
  3. Your Personal items
  4. Condition/age of Building/Home
  5. Your financial picture

The Annex

The Annex is a hub for young professionals and creative young adults. Historically home to students and staff of the University of Toronto, this neighborhood begins at the northwest boundary of what would be considered downtown.

Little Italy

Little Italy is just past Kensington Market along College Street. While it has much of the charm of its neighbor, it feels a little less rough around the edges. As you might expect in a traditionally Italian neighborhood, there are lots of great places to eat, and it’s also one of the best areas in Toronto for a night out.

Kensington

Located on the western side of Chinatown between College Street to the north and Dundas Street to the south, Kensington is easily accessible to the downtown core as well as to two frequent streetcar routes: the 505 Dundas to the south, and the 506 College to the north.

Roncesvalles

Roncesvalles is one of the prettier Toronto neighborhoods, with various independent shops, bars, restaurants, and coffee shops offering plenty of character. As one might imagine, rents have risen in line with Roncy’s popularity, but remains cheaper than in Toronto neighborhoods closer to downtown.

Dovercourt

The south end of the ‘village’ along Bloor between Ossington and Dufferin is home to indie bars, record stores, and the famous Long & McQuade guitar store.
